SMITH PAINTING & DRYWALL RECOMMENDS:
- Always clean surface prior to beginning work.
- Treat wood with Jomax or exterior bleach. This works well for cleaning areas with mold, mildew, surface dirt and oil. This should be applied with a pump-up sprayer. Allow to sit for at least 5 minutes before rinsing off.
- Pressure wash treated areas at 3000 PSI to remove loose paint, mildew and surface dirt. This will provide a clean surface for priming and painting. Allow 24 hours of dry time.
- Spot prime any bare wood areas or newly installed siding or trim with a good oil-base primer. This will bond well to new bare wood
- A 35 year or 45 year rated acrylic latex caulk is recommended for cracks on wood Most caulking manufacturers have a number rating on the tube. Allow caulk to dry for at least 1 hour before painting over.
- NOTE: Always use a top of the line exterior paint to protect your wood longer. All manufacturers carry an A, B and C grade paint. You should always use A-grade paint. Using a satin finish retards dirt better.
- Painting can be sprayed or brushed/rolled. We recommend brush/roll application for all fascia, soffit and trim. Large areas like siding and smooth stucco can be sprayed. We recommend back rolling rough surfaces such as heavy textured stucco or painting brick surfaces.
